[Unidentified Committee Member]: I mean, I know.
[Brian Collamore (Chair)]: Okay. Good afternoon. Welcome back to Southern Community and Government Operations meeting on Wednesday, 05/13/2026. We have two amendments to consider on s two ninety eight. And, Tim, if you can very quickly run through, we'll take a vote.
[Tim (Legislative Counsel)]: Alright. There are three instances of amendment here. We have the first one, which will strike out section four, which was that requirement that that would put statute requiring state ethics commission to answer questions and post particular materials in a very specific way. This inverses that session law, which will expire on May. The exception then will be the same language except for that last sentence in the prior iteration of section four, which reads, upon contact by the candidate, commission shall provide answers. Candidates and questions by email or phone, whichever candidate may prefer, but that is no longer in turn. Second, and that again requires the same things with the Secretary of State, except the has already in there. Second instance of amendment will create a new section, section 4A, will also be a session law, the management of candidate disclosure form to report and require that by January, state ethics commission, secretary of state's office report to this committee and sister committee in the house with their combined and shared recommendations on how to best match any disclosure forms required under the or statute. The third instance of amendment will change the definition of what is political committee or political action committee in the campaign finance, laws, particular, let's see, 17 v s a twenty nine zero one subsection 13, replacing an or with an and with the effect that, entities, individuals will need to, accept contributions and make expenditures in any amounts in a two year general election cycle for purposes of supporting or opposing more and more candidates, etcetera, etcetera, in order to be considered a path of approval. That's the amendment. Any questions?
[Brian Collamore (Chair)]: Okay. I'll ask for a show of hands to approve the first and second instance of amendment. Okay? And now I'll ask for another show of hands to approve the third instance of amendment. Oh, okay. We almost got to file on both.
[Unidentified Committee Member]: I know. Okay.
[Brian Collamore (Chair)]: I will let the secretary of the senate's office know that we'll be up on this tomorrow. This will require another journey upstairs to the house, and we'll see what they do with it. May wind up in They conference may just concur. I have no idea, but I think we did great work on that first and second instance of it.
[Unidentified Committee Member]: I feel very good that given and thank you, Mr. Chair, for giving us the time to get to yes on that piece. So thank you.
[Brian Collamore (Chair)]: Yes. Okay, anything else come before the committee today? We just didn't have any. Seeing no hands, I will move that we adjourn for the day and see all of you tomorrow.
[Unidentified Committee Member]: Well, we might not
